A pool deck is the hardest surface we coat, and St. Augustine is a hard place to do it. The deck takes direct sun most of the day, standing water constantly, chlorine or a salt system splashing out of the pool, and on Anastasia Island and Vilano, airborne salt on top of all of it. Bare feet are on it, which raises the bar on both temperature and grip.
Slip resistance is a specification, not a promise
Our systems test at 0.65 wet DCOF under ANSI A326.3. That is a measured number for the finished surface in wet conditions, and we will put it in writing. Texture is adjustable, so if you want more grip on a deck with children or older family using it, we build more in.
Cooler than what is there now
A coated deck runs noticeably cooler underfoot than bare concrete or dark pavers in direct sun. Lighter flake blends help more, which is why the white and sand blends are popular on decks even when a customer wanted something darker indoors.
Which system goes on a pool deck
Usually the polyaspartic basecoat, because it will not amber where flake coverage runs thin and a pool deck lives in open sun. If the slab reads damp, and pool decks often do, we switch to the epoxy basecoat for its far higher moisture vapor tolerance. Both finish with the same slip resistant polyaspartic topcoat, and both cost the same.
Chemistry
The topcoat rates excellent against bleach and 20 percent sodium chloride, which covers chlorine and salt chlorinated systems in normal use. Rinse splash off when you think of it, but a salt system is not a problem for the finish.
Historic district, the islands, and World Golf Village
Older decks in and around the historic district usually need more repair before coating. Anastasia Island and Vilano get the salt exposure conversation. World Golf Village and the newer developments west of town are typically straightforward slab on grade, where the moisture reading decides the basecoat.

Pool decks start around $4,695. Most residential work runs five to seven dollars per square foot depending on condition and layout. Estimates are free, in writing, and follow a look at the deck.
