Pool Deck Coatings

On this coast the pool deck is the center of the backyard nine months a year. Our deck systems add slip resistance, run noticeably cooler than bare concrete, and shrug off chlorine, salt systems, and the afternoon storm cycle.

Pool decks fail differently than garages. The enemies are barefoot heat, slippery algae film, chemical splash, and the constant wet and dry cycling that Florida weather delivers daily. A proper deck coating addresses all four: textured for grip, lighter and more reflective than raw concrete, and sealed so chemicals and organics stay on the surface where they rinse away. Lighter blends keep the deck cooler underfoot, browse our color options to see what works for your space.

Salt system pools deserve a specific mention because half the corridor has switched to them. Salt is brutal on unsealed concrete and on cheap coatings. Our systems are chosen with salt exposure assumed, which on this coast it always should be.

Cooler underfootLighter, more reflective surface that takes the bite out of August barefoot walks.
Slip resistantTextured broadcast finish rated for wet areas.
Chemical and salt proofChlorine, salt systems, and sunscreen rinse off instead of etching in.
Mildew resistantSealed surface gives algae and mildew nothing to root into.

Pricing: Pool decks typically start around $4,695 depending on square footage, existing surface condition, and texture selection, with most residential work running five to seven dollars per square foot.

Three systems, one price

Which System Goes Down

We install three one day flake systems for pool decks. One uses a 100 percent solids epoxy basecoat, one uses polyurea, one uses polyaspartic. All three take the same vinyl flake broadcast, all three are sealed under the same polyaspartic topcoat, and all three finish at over fifty mils. Their published test numbers are identical: same adhesion, same tensile strength, same abrasion resistance, same gloss retention under accelerated UV.

Pool decks get sun and standing water, so we normally spec either the polyaspartic basecoat for UV or the epoxy basecoat where slab moisture reads high. Both finish with the same slip resistant texture.

The price is the same whichever one your floor calls for, so the choice is a technical one rather than a budget one. See the full system comparison, or read why we test your slab first.

All three systems: over 400 PSI adhesion to concrete, 4,000 psi tensile strength, over fifty mils total thickness, polyaspartic topcoat, one day install, same price.

Pool Deck Coatings FAQ

Is it slippery when wet?

No. Deck systems are broadcast with texture specifically for wet barefoot traffic. You choose the aggressiveness of the texture at the estimate.

Can you coat over cool deck or old paint?

Existing coatings and toppings have to be evaluated first. Sound surfaces can sometimes be recoated after preparation, failed ones get removed. The estimate settles it in writing.

How much does a pool deck coating cost?

Pool decks start around $4,695, with most projects in the $5 to $7 per square foot range depending on square footage and slab condition. The estimate is free, measured on site, and put in writing.

Will pool chemicals or salt systems damage the coating?

No. The polyaspartic topcoat resists chlorine splash, salt-system water, and sunscreen residue. We do recommend rinsing the deck weekly and wiping up standing chemicals the same day, which is the same care any coated surface wants. Exterior work carries the 7-year written warranty.

Does a coated deck get hot in the sun?

It stays comparable to other light-colored deck surfaces. Lighter flake blends reflect more heat, and we will walk you through the blends that stay most comfortable barefoot in full Florida sun when we quote the job.
